We built Workpulsar because back-office work was still done by hand

Founded 2024, Denver, Colorado. We built this because the tools that claim to automate document workflows are either built for enterprise procurement departments or require a developer to set up. Neither option fits a 10-person operations team.

The problem we kept running into

From 2019 to 2023, Michael Torres worked in operations consulting roles across distribution, freight brokerage, and regional financial services companies in the Mountain West. The companies ranged from 30 to 200 people. The document problems were nearly identical at every one of them.

Invoices sat in a shared email inbox until someone opened them and typed the vendor name and amount into a spreadsheet. Vendor onboarding took two weeks because W-9s arrived by email, got forwarded to accounting, and were tracked in a shared Google Sheet that was always slightly out of date. Approval chains existed in managers' heads, not in any system. When an approver was out, documents waited.

Michael tried every category of tool: RPA scripts that broke when a vendor changed their PDF layout, general-purpose automation platforms that required a developer to set up even the simplest invoice workflow, and document management systems built for enterprise procurement teams with dedicated IT staff. None of them fit a 10-person operations team that needed something working in a week.

Workpulsar started in early 2024 with one goal: intelligent document processing that an operations manager can set up and maintain without writing a line of code. Not a platform. Not a workflow builder that requires a three-day implementation. A product that reads your invoices, routes them correctly, and puts the data where it needs to go.

Three things we will not compromise on

A wrong field value is worse than a slow one

When extraction confidence falls below the threshold for a required field, Workpulsar routes the document to human-in-the-loop review instead of passing a bad value into your accounting system. Speed is not the point. Accuracy is. A data entry error that reaches QuickBooks takes ten times as long to fix as catching it at the document.

Exceptions are part of the workflow, not outside it

Every accounts payable team has invoices that do not match any open PO, vendors that are not in the approved list, and documents with missing required fields. Workpulsar is designed with these cases as first-class events, not errors to handle later. When an exception occurs, the right person sees it with the extracted data attached, not a vague notification to go find the document.

Operations managers should not need IT to change a routing rule

We will not add a feature that requires a developer to configure. Every workflow template, routing condition, approval chain, and integration target is set through a form interface. If the person running accounts payable cannot change it without opening a ticket, we have not finished building it.
